Magic Mountain Mondays #38: Granny Gran Prix

Would have been fine to keep calling them the Antique Cars.

In August of 1995, I took a bunch of photos (on film no less) at Six Flags Magic Mountain using an inexpensive camera. I was working as an Operations supervisor at the time, and the purpose of the project was to create a slide show for an employee appreciation party for our Operations staff. I’ve carted these slides around for over 25 years and I finally had them digitally transferred this year. About 2/3s of them aren’t available for posting because they are crew pictures and I have no way to request permission to post them. But I do have 50+ available that are just various shots of the park. Enjoy this time capsule from August 1995.

Kevin and Val Go To...Islands of Adventure, May '22. We go to ride Velocicoaster, & in time, succeed!

On the 3rd full day of Kevin and Val's Spring Fling 2022, we went to Universal's Island of Adventure. Our early morning objective was to ride the Velocicoaster, a relatively new Intamin launch coaster that we'd only been on once. Velocicoaster decided to open hours late, however, so we did a bunch off other stuff that I didn't film. Oops! In any case, Velocicoaster opened after lunch, we rode, and a good time was had by all. And there would be more in our future. Enjoy!

Kevin and Val Go To...Kennedy Space Center, May 2022. Apollo 8, Atlantis, a rocket garden, and more!

And now for something a little different...we drove from Orlando out to the Kennedy Space Center. What took us so long? Who knows? This was a really fun day with a lot of Smithsonian vibes. See the Apollo/Saturn program! See the Atlantis at rest! See the Rocket Garden! Hear questionable commentary! I recommend heading out here...if you're into the space program it is a no-brainer. If you think you may like it, you will. And heck, maybe you need a theme park break. Who am I kidding? More theme park videos coming soon! Enjoy.

Kevin & Val Go To...Busch Gardens Tampa, May 2022. Coasters and another spring food festival!

Welcome to Kevin and Val's Spring Fling 2022, a hashtag and event that took the world by story in early May, 2022. For our first installment of our Spring 2022 Orlando theme park trip we went to Busch Gardens Tampa. Since we were able to visit twice in a week, the weekend visit was most about 2 things: riding Iron Gwazi, a thrilling new RMC, and enjoying some offerings from their spring food and wine festival. Oh, and POVs from Cheetah Hunt and Cobras Curse. We were still recovering from travel, so we took it easy and enjoyed what the park had to offer. Enjoy!

Magic Mountain Mondays #37: Sierra Twist

Speaking of the High Sierra Territory makeover, Magic Mountain’s Bayern Kurve went from Swiss Twist to Sierra Twist. I’m not saying Swiss Twist was a great name, but Sierra Twist? That's some “first thought, best thought” shit right there.
