Universal Studios Hollywood trip mid-July, 2021 | Park highlights plus a visit to an old friend, the Tonga Hut.

One of the nice things about having a Universal Studios Hollywood pass is that for us, this is the closest theme park to home. Do I wish I still could own a Disneyland AP? Sure. But we're really enjoying Universal, Magic, Knott's, and soon we'll be visiting SeaWorld San Diego. For this trip we headed down for opening on a Sunday, got in a handful of rides, ate lunch, shopped, and then stopped by one of our old haunts that just recently re-opened: The Tonga Hut in North Hollywood! We met up with a few fellow Drooling Bastards for our first "inside the tiki bar" experience since the pandemic started. Enjoy!

A quick Sunday trip to Universal Studios Hollywood...things are busy!

May 23, 2021. It sure feels like there's pent-up demand here in SoCal for theme parks. It's only a couple of weeks into re-opening and things are busy, especially on the weekends. Reduced capacity sure, but with limits in indoor crowds the lines get pretty long, and are mostly out on the midway. We did a quick lap close to opening and rode Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff, and Revenge of the Mummy all with 15 minutes (or less) of a wait. Then the park filled up and we moved on to food, beers, and walking around. Enjoy!

Universal Studios Hollywood - May 2021

Universal Studios Hollywood is back open and we took a trip there on May 8, 2021. People seem to be missing theme parks as the attraction and food lines were all quite long. But despite that we were able to ride the Studio Tram tour and the new Secret Life of Pets dark ride (full ride-through at the end of the video). And we got some quality people-watching, which has been sadly missing for the last year+. Enjoy!

Jurassic 10k

Tough but fun 10k. Universal Hollywood is not built on flat land and the course reflects that fact. Medals and donuts achieved.
